Day Seven - Journal

If Sundays are sleepy, then Mondays are happening! So much good stuff today! When we got to the NICU this morning, Hayden's top to his incubator was removed. This may not seem like a big deal, but it's a big step toward getting another thing checked off his list of "must-dos" before he goes. The top being lifted means that he is doing a good job regulating his temperature and doesn't need the support of the incubator any more. He's on a trial run today and if all goes well, he should be able to move to a regular bassinet tomorrow!

Next, Chris and I met with the Endocrinologist (hormone doctor). She examined Hayden and talked to us more about the hypothyroidism. She was so happy that we found it early. The effects if it isn't detected early can be awful, but early detection can mean a symptom free life!

After that we went to our infant CPR class. It was four hours of good stuff. We were the only ones in the class so we had free reign to ask tons of questions and we left feeling great and so much more informed. The only bad part was that it meant we didn't get to see Hayden during that time.

The last bit of good news is a REALLY good one --- he finished his first bottle with us today! Okay - simple stuff -- but when you've been anxiously awaiting this moment for a week --- it's cause for celebration! A big first step toward getting the feeding down pat!

Bad news is that Grandma leaves tomorrow. She has loved being here with Hayden. She has a 6:30 am flight tomorrow. She's getting up at 2:30 am to walk over to the hospital and spend her last few hours here with Hayden. She's already planning an early March trip to Chicago!

Well, let's hope today (Hayden's One Week B-Day) will be a sign of a great week to come!
