A busy Friday today! We started out with a trip to the Children's Hospital for our follow up appointment with the lab. Hayden had to have blood taken to retest his thyroid levels. With the medication he is taking for the hypothyroid, it's important that we continually assess how he is doing. Depending on the results, the doctors may decide to strengthen or lessen his dosage. Let me just say that the blood draw was not a pleasurable experience.
First off, his little arms are so tiny that the nurse could barely find a vein. Then, once she did, she wasn't able to get an active flow. So, after several attempts and MANY screams, she decided to do some heal pricks and draw the blood in small stages. It worked, but Hayden was not happy about it at all! It was so hard to watch him screaming in pain!
This afternoon, we took a big family trip (the three of us) to O'Hare airport to pick up Chris' brother, J.P., who is here from Virginia for a quick weekend visit. Hayden loves the car. It puts him right to sleep and he barely makes a sound in his carseat. Chris loves to ride next to him and just stare at him!
After picking up J.P., we decided to be quite adventurous. Chris and I went to dinner WITH Hayden. He had been so good all day that we decided to give it a whirl. We chose a small, not very crowded, smoke free, and quiet restaurant... all of those qualities took about an hour to find together! But we finally did and it was great. I mastered the one arm eating and Hayden enjoyed about 15 minutes of staring around and about 45 minutes of sleep in the restaurant!
One thing we didn't do today was take pictures. Mostly because we set the camera down somewhere in the house and haven't figured out where yet! We'll make that our mission tomorrow.
Here's to a good night sleep... I hope!
