Week Nine - Big Boy, Sleeping Routine & Lila

It was definitely a busy week! I can't believe that Hayden is almost 10 weeks old already!

We went to the doctor's on Wednesday for Hayden's 2 month check up. He is doing terrific. He is a BIG BOY! Hayden weighed in at 10 pounds, 5 ounces! That's over double what he weighed when he was born! He is now about 22.5 inches long.

Dr, Mikhail suggested that we start a sleeping routine. She said that even though he won't necessarily remember the routine, it's good to start it so that it becomes natural for us and Hayden will gradually get the hang of it too. She also suggested that we phase him out of the bassinet in our room and have him start sleeping in his crib. So, being the good students that we are, we started that night.

At 7pm we take Hayden up for a bath. We change him and get him ready for bed. We give him his last bottle. We read him a story. We swaddle him. We put him down to bed......... What happens next is still a little up in the air! Sometimes Hayden screams and yells and makes it known that he is not ready for the bed thing. Sometimes he is a perfect little angel who falls fast asleep. Sometimes he stares at the ceiling for up to an hour before a) falling asleep or b) screaming. In the end, he does always fall asleep -- so far!

Last night was big... he slept for 8 -- YES, EIGHT -- hours! This was a big jump from the usual 3-4 hours. Of course, the 8 hours were from 8pm-4am, but no one is complaining! This was just last night so we aren't sure what the future will hold. Not sure if it was just a fluke or if this is the beginning of something wonderful (aka sleep for dads!) I guess we'll just leave that as the cliffhanger on the blog. You'll have to check back next Monday to find out the end of the story!

I'm off to San Francisco for a wedding from Thursday to Sunday so Chris is going to be at it alone with Hayden here in Chicago. I'm sure he'll have the help of Joanne as well. He's nervous, but he's going to be just fine!

Our big event this past week was a visit from our friends Adrienne and Howard with their daughter, Lila. They're from San Francisco, but Howard's family is here in the Chicago area so we got to visit with them all day Saturday.... The meeting of Lila and Hayden is best told in pictures....
